The Conference Begins!

The conference I am at is for school librarians from all over the world to meet and share ideas. At the opening ceremonies, one member from each of the thirty-six countries represented at the conference was selected to come on stage with their country’s flag to represent their country; I was selected to be the United States representative - can you find me in the photo? At night we went on a dinner boat cruise on the Bosphorus Strait, a body of water connecting the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. Did you know a small part of Turkey is in Europe and the rest is in Asia? On the boat we could see both continents! Read the captions for more information on my day!

The opening ceremony for the conference also included a performance by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ottoman Band.

Hi Mrs. A’s students! Thanks for the great questions! Andrew, there are over 15 MILLION people in Istanbul! It is the largest city in the country of Turkey. Adriana, I asked some of the people from Turkey what kind of pets they have and they answered cats, dogs, hamsters. They also said the donkey is a very special animal to them. If someone has nice eyes, they say “He (or she) has donkey eyes!” Josh, yes Turkish people do drink - everyone has to drink to stay alive! They drink a lot of different kinds of juices - orange, cherry and peach. I like the peach juice the best!

Hi Rielly -
Thanks for the great question! There are several foods I really like: Peach juice (from fresh peaches - it's actually brown but tastes delicious!), yogurt with grape molasses sauce, lamb kebabs and turkish delight.
