Work on the well starts!

Cameroon is made up of many regions. Farmer Tantoh’s Eco-Lodge is located outside of the city of Bamenda where there is currently conflict between two groups of people, There has been fighting and people have been hurt, so Farmer thought it best if we didn’t go to that part of Cameroon. That means we aren’t able to help put in the well, but we are still able to post the pictures of it being put in. Here is a video of Farmer Tantoh explaining the process.

Dear Kaela,
They are fighting because they have a political disagreement they can’t solve. Hopefully they will be able to come to agreement soon! The workers are staying in that area but they are being very careful.

Dear Tapangah,
They are fighting because one part of the country (that speaks English) wants to separate from the rest of the country (that speaks French). Even though we aren’t able to help put the well in, the most important part of our trip was to bring the money that everyone contributed and give it to Farmer Tantoh. We have been able to do so much while we’ve been in Yaounde, though, as you can see from our blog posts.

Hey I can't wait to see you and you tell use how it is down there and how you changed it. Also I can't wait to see your dance moves and your gorilla face.

Dear Ethan,
That’s a great question, but a tough one to answer. From what we have experienced, the people are kind and generous, and very family oriented. Different regions of the country have different customs, which is one of the reasons why Cameroon is known as “Little Africa.”

Dear Jordan,
For breakfast we have had omelets, french fries and fried plantains (they are almost like bananas). We are drinking lots of water because it is so hot. There is also DELICIOUS soft bread!

Dear Ms. Tabone’s class,
Farmer is coming to Auburn because Miranda and Baptiste Paul wrote a book about him and they thought it would be so cool to bring him with them so students could meet him.

Dear Kvahn,
What a great question! The well can hold three thousand liters a day, which is over 600 gallons.

Dear Jacob,

Each cement ring weighs about 220 pounds and there are about thirty rings. Can you figure out the total weight?
